Service-Learning Courses
Service-Learning courses combine academic learning in the classroom and service with the community in a variety ofways. The list of courses offering Service-Learning duringSpring 2013 is linked above.

PRE-SERVICE WORKSHOPS FOR SERVICE-LEARNING STUDENTS
The Pre-Service Workshop will provide students with a basic overview of service-learning fundamentals including building reciprocal relationships, approaching community work from an asset-based perspective, and exhibiting professionalism in their work with community organizations. Workshops will be held in Mary Gates Hall (MGH), Room 171 during the following times:
- Wednesday, April 3 - 3:30 - 5:00 PM
*Specifically designed for International Students - Monday, April 8 – 1:30-3:00 PM
- Monday, April 8 – 3:30-5:00 PM
- Tuesday, April 9 – 2:00-3:30 PM
- Tuesday, April 9 – 4:00-5:30 PM
- Wednesday, April 10 – 2:30-4:00 PM
- Friday, April 12 – 2:00-3:30 PM
No RSVP is necessary; please arrive 5 minutes early, and check in at the front desk.

SPRING CELEBRATION OF SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP IS COMING!
On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 3:00pm - 5:30pm, we invite you to attend the Spring Celebration of Service and Leadership in the Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center on the University of Washington, Seattle campus.
The Spring Celebration of Service and Leadership is a yearly event that allows students to showcase their work and learning related to service and leadership experiences. Students across the UW Seattle campus will display and speak about their work. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to engage these students to learn more about their projects and the experiences gained during the year.

Service-Learning Evaluation Report for 2011-2012 (PDF)
In 2011-2012, the Carlson Center supported 96 service-learning courses across a variety of academic areas, placing 2,933 undergraduate students in volunteer positions with hundreds of non-profit organizations, providing approximately 58,660 hours of service toward a variety of needs in the local community. Carlson Center featured on the February 2012 edition of UW 360 in preparation for the upcoming 20th Anniversary Celebration!
UW 360 is a magazine-style show that profiles the fascinating people, programs and community connections that define the University of Washington. This February's episode contained a special spotlight on the Carlson Center - "stories on service learning integrated with academics." The episode features students serving at the U District Food Bank and Pike Senior Center, watch for interviews with our partners Joe Grubber and Zoe Freeman, as well as the Carlson Center's new Director, Rachel Vaughn!
